We currently have a 670 and 100 with 16 DKTs connected via StrataNET over MPLS. We are going to be changing firewall vendors from Sonicwall to Astaro in 2011 and have evaluated the Astaro RED unit as a possible option for eliminating the costly MPLS line and replacing it with a non-dedicated T1.
The RED unit acts as a direct replacement for MPLS and creates a secure layer 2 tunnel between the RED device and the central Astaro gateway. The network behind the RED device is configured as an internal network with private addressing.
My question is does anyone have experience with this device and/or this scenario and if it will eliminate the need to have the MIPU card on a public subnet?
How sensitive is QSIG to latency fluctuations with G729A codec selected?

I have not used this device directly, but if you have a VPN between sites and do not need external IP phones, then you can set the MIPU with internal IP address.
G729A may be a little more sensitive to jitter, delays, and lost packets then G711.

Thanks.
I figured the higher-quality and more bandwidth-hungry G711 codec would be more sensitive than G729.
