Installing a Stratagy DK (Hard Drive not IVP8) into existing Strata Dk 424 w/ sdmi. Documentation is a bit vague so I have a few questions.
Slot 00 - RCTU Slot 01 - RCTUD3 Slot 11 - PDKUv2 Slot 12 - PDKUv2 Slot 13 - Empty (future expansion) Slot 14 - Stratagy DK (Ports ?? See below) Slot 15 - PIOU Slot 16 - RCOU1A w/piggyback PCB
Install manuals for system and stratagy state that PDKU must be set to 64 in program 3. Easy enough. Also states that PDKU must have DSS port programmed for (Night Service monitoring) AND a DKT must be on first port of PDKU (for date time monitoring).
Question 1 - Our office is small enough that we do not have a DSS installed. My assumption is that if a DSS port is programmed into the Strata DK 424 that the Stratagy DK will monitor that port and a DSS console does not actually need to be on someone's desk. Is this correct?
Question 2 - If a DSS port is programmed into the system doesn't the DSS need to be on the first port of that same PDKU? If so, how do I put a DKT on that port for SMDI? Should I program the console_slot_id to the first port on the first PDKU and program first slot on second PDKU as DSS (since we do not use one)?
Question 3 - The label on the Stratagy DK has all port ID's blackened in so I do not know which card I have. Is there a way to tell prior to plugging it in?
Question 4 - What is the difference between 2 port, 4 port or 6 port (other than the obvious)? What I mean is what do the additional ports provide? More mailboxes? Ability to setup more greeting messages? ...?
Question 5 - I have Stratagy VM Manager v1.7. Is it the right software to program the Stratagy DK referenced above? If not could someone PM me with correct software to use please?

1. You don't need to have a DSS console for any voicemail operation. You can program DSS buttons on any phone to transfer calls or monitor VM ports being in operation or not.
2. Stop worrying about DSS ports you are not going to need SMDI to add a voicemail.
3. You could plug a regular phone line into the vm jacks (remember you need a 1/2 line splitter to get both ports on the jack) and call that number. Either it answers or it doesn't. If one jack, then two ports, if two jacks then four ports, easy to test.
4. How many people inside or outside can access the voice mail at the same time. That is ALL.
5. Don't know, someone else would know.

2. The DSS Console actually connects to the 8th port on the PDKU card. Question....Are you definately going to use SMDI integration? It will work fine without it.
3. That would indicate an 8 port DK Card. The only way to tell is plug it in, set the programming, and call each port. The Stratagy DK is an inskin card and you will not be able to connect to the VM ports to monitor them. I think Bunnie is referring to the external Stratagy PC based voice mail platforms that use RSTU ports.
5. VM Manager 1.7 will work, but there is bug that screws with the date. The newest version is 1.11. VM Manager is used to administer voice mail systems that are Release 3 (or higher). You need to figure out what Stratagy software version is on that DK card.

Bunnie, Voyager, thanks for getting back to me.
Voyager,
2. Yes, I am going to use SMDI in an attempt to simplify message checking .. i.e. I do not want to have to program buttons on individual phones if I can help it. If I have understood the installation manual correctly, by using SMDI I can avoid having to do that. Also, if I stick with default programming of DK card I am hoping that using SMDI will prevent people from not being able to access their messages by mis-dialing (forgetting to hit # before dialing 9 and getting external operator instead ..... mailbox ID's start at 990). Basically, push one button, that I do not have to program, and dial your access code.
3. Okay, will install card tomorrow (system will not be in use) and see what I can find out.
5. Will the bug still screw with the date if I set the Stratagy to get date and time from the KSU? On a related note .... is there an update for New daylight savings time? If so, how may I get it? Assume it can be updated using Manager software and choosing upgrade.
Since you mentioned ports on the Stratagy ... need to make sure of something. First PDKU is programmed ports 000-007, second is 008-015. Does the DK get programmed 016-023? If so, what extensions should I assign those ports? 990-997 (which I believe to be the default).
Thanks again for the help. You gentleman are awesome.

First off, I wouldn't leave any vacant slots ahead of any station or line cards - you will regret it later. Second, default programming will assign ports 016-023 as 216-213. Personally, I would renumber them as 501-508 with the DHG prime as 500 instead of 850. Third, I wouldn't set the stratagy to sync to KSU time, but that is just me.

BobRobert, Thanks for the input. Already knew that the ports would be automatically assigned so they have been renumbered to 991-997.
Also, nice catch on the open slot. Thought it would be easier later but I think I see what you are getting at. Open slot used later would screw with port numbering. Right?
The rest sounds like really good advise but could you please explain your reasoning? For instance I thought Designated Hunt Group (DHG) prime was 990?

Wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for their help with this. I am pretty good with the Strata DK but I have no experience with Staratagy VM. Your help and comments have been extremely helpful and are greatly appreciated.

In the Stratagy, 990 in the main greeting mailbox and 991 is the instructional greeting mailbox immediately following the main greeting. In the DK, check out prog *04 and *40 for the distributed hunt group. Port 900 is the first DHG port and its DN is 850. Personally, I wouldn't renumber the ports as 991-997 to avoid confusion with the system mailboxes. That is why I prefer to rename them as 501-507 with the DHG as 500 instead of 850. No particular reason, I just think it makes it easier for the customer to remember.

BobRobert, very kind of you to get back to me again.
Have taken your advise and programmed ports as described. Now have a tougher problem.
Trying to connect to Stratagy DK via direct connect to card port 2 from serial on my laptop (com1, 9600) using VM Manager 1.7. Connection fails handshake. Do I need to use other version of connection software? If so do you know where I might download it from? It is possible that card has password on it that needs resetting, it's a used card. Do not know how to do that. PM please if possible.
