I noticed Toshiba techs saying the easiest way to upgrade a CIX100 system is to rename the SD card: PRGRESCUE01 and force the update into the system, and then format the card.

Is it really that troublesome to use the update menus in eManager?

The owner of the system has seen the update screens and is genuinely curious why it's not the preferred method/what caveats are involved vs. the forced method?

Do what you think is easier. The outcome is the same.

I personally prefer to use the PRGRESCUE01 method. I find that it is usually a quicker process than using NeM for upgrades. It also gives me a good reason to grab a good, clean, updated copy of the customers default.dat file.

Thanks for the replies. My assumption was that it's quicker/less steps but I wanted something a bit more concrete for owner to digest. smile

I have found that using NeM for the upgrading to be unreliable, it often causes problem with mcg's and misses odd bits of programming, with PRGRESCUE I always carry a spare media card, backup the system on to the customers media card the use my card for the upgrade, that way ou have a roll back solution if things go belly up.

Old version 3.XX unpgrade through emanager was real slow. Now 4.XX + through NeM is faster but it doesn't seem to want to work all the time for me.

After I learned this method, I do almost every upgrade this way. Only time I had a problem is when I may have had the wrong version on the card. Put the correct version on an fixed it.

Hmmm I think I must have missed a step.. well over 60 mins and nothing changed.. but I still get kicked out of programming..

Gonna give it another 10 mins and then reset it.. ?
