I have a customer that has a CIX 40 with the GVPH installed. He also has a voice mail record button on his phone, and the mailbox selection is set to automatic. What has happened in the last few days is that whenever he tries to record a conversation with the voice mail record button, it lights up momentarily, then blinks several times, and goes out. When he hangs up from the call, there is no MWL. The timer for recorded messages in his mailbox is set to 999 seconds. This setup has worked for more than 2 years up until a few days ago. Any ideas?

Oh, one other thing: I set up a Voice Mail record button on another phone in the same system, and it does exactly the same thing. So that, to me, indicates maybe the problem is in the voice mail rather than the 40 itself.

Phil,

double-check prog 204 FB23 and see if it's set for auto and check prog 200 FB22 and make sure that the vm pilot number is there.

Well, when I got back on site yesterday, it was working perfectly!! Go Figure! I checked the integration, and it was working. I tried to call tech support again, but after waiting for 45 minutes, I decided that I wasn't going to waste the time. Then I decided to upgrade the system software, which I did. Took it from MT009 to MT 022. I then told the customer to monitor it every now and again to make sure it was still working. So now, we are in the wait-and-see mode, to see if it screws up again. Tom, I triple checked those settings, and all was fine.

Well, we didn't have long to wait. It failed yesterday afternoon, and, as of this morning, was still not working. I am at a loss, except to replace the voice mail. But I am NOT sure it's the voice mail's fault! I'm on hold right now with tech support, to see if they have any other ideas.

No, Tom - it has been entirely wiped clean of messages. What tech support told me was: Put the mailbox selection to manual and try it. I did, and it worked. Then I decided to put it back to automatic, and tried it - it still worked! So in our conversation, tech support said that answer supervision had to be set in order for it to: work as it should, and go to the correct mailbox. All that means is that the called party must answer before the calling party begins the recording process, even though the customer said that it had worked before by pressing the VM Record button immediately after dialing the number. I told the customer that the recommended method is to wait for the called party to answer before pushing the VM Record button, and he seemed to be satisfied with that. I also told him that if it ever failed to record again, call me, and I would come over to reset the auto/manual mailbox selection, or do it remotely.

Since when does a CIX 40 know when the called party answers a POTS line? I did not know they supported answer supervision. I assume this works simular to release supervision with a signal from telco.

I had an opposite issue with a CIX670 that went to a PRI, and transfereing a call would only work after the called party answered the call, which was not the case with the old POTS lines. It just had to start ringing.
