I'm experiencing a problem on a 4 port SGDK connected to a DK40. Incoming calls are intermittently answered by the modem. Sometimes you can wait-out the modem, (about 5 sec's) then it will connect to AA, other times you have to hangup and call back. Has this happened to anyone else?

To elaborate some more:

Only some incoming CO calls are picked up by the modem. Most calls go through fine. It appears to happen randomly. I did notice that after I'm done using VM manager and exit from it I'll wait a minute or 2 to call into the system and then I get the modem instead of AA. It also seems to occasionally happen if you call and disconnect before AA has completed it's greeting. The subsequent call experiences the modem. Any call after that appears to go through fine.

The Stratagy DK does not have a built-in modem. If you dial into Stratagy internally and not from a CO trunk, do you get the modem?

Phonemeister,
I haven't experienced any internal dialing problems.

BTW, The Stratagy DK does have an internal modem. I've used it to call in remotely many times.

I thought that the internal modem was available starting with the IVP8. I checked the manual and the Stratagy DK does have an 2400 baud modem. Anyway, if the problem doesn't creep up on internal dialing to the Stratagy, then it's something on the CO trunks. Maybe the alarm?

Many commercial alarms have a built-in modem. The answer scenario is: Call the assigned alarm modem trunk/line and ring 1 or 2 times, then hang up. Call back within a minute or so and the modem answers IMMEDIATELY. Most alarms can have the 1-2 rings set out to 8-10 rings. That normally cures the problem. Just that then the AA can't be rung through the KSU at night on the alarm line/trunk. That way the alarm guys can call in after hours and 'do their thang'. Another problem that can be easily cured. Many alarm installation guys use the Published number line. Have them connect through the LAST line in the hunt group! And if you can, make it be the last line seized on outbound calls in the KSU. (This may take some 'fanagling')

Well, It was the alarm. Apparently there was a service call about a month ago for some issues with the alarm system that I wasn't informed about. It was originally connected to the fax line but was moved to the phone system primary number because it was conflicting with the fax machine. I moved it to the last number in the hunt group and all is well again.

Thanks for the input guys!
