hi all,
i'm helping with the repair of a DK280 which was hit by lightning. the lightning blew the processors out(c/d). the processors have been replaced, everything else is working except for sending/recieving faxes via the PRI. intercom fax to fax works fine, they have 4 fax machines. faxes will be successful ~15-20% of the time over the PRI. another symptom is faint clicking every ~2 seconds on any of the 24 RSTU ports when idle or in use. today, i'm borrowing a known good RPTU to replace the existing BPTU, for testing purposes. i'm bringing 3 RPSU280's too, just in case.
tia, bill

I'd also take along a couple of spare RSTU's. The clicking maybe something simple like a message waiting indicator - go off hook on the analog port and dial #409. If the clicking doesn't go away, swap the RSTU and retest. I've had analog ports damaged by lightning that would constantly click - on hook, off hook, even during an outside call.
I'd also take along a RSSU if the existing setup doesn't have a serial port. Pull a PRIERR dump and look at slips and errors. Use these numbers as a base line and pull another dump a few minutes later and see if the slips or errors increase.

Do what BobRobert said. Sounds like a bad RSTU.

thanks for the replies so far!
the timer sync light is flashing. i've heard no frame slips during voice calls.
we can fax internally from and to other machines via intercom calls. i swapped the rstu with another known good one, still clicks and no improvement on p.r.i. faxes.
it's kind of academic now, the cfo has pulled the plug on us continuing to attempt repair. apparently he's going to try to limp it alon until the voip comes, in 3 months. oh well...
thx again
