We have a CTX670 and CTX100 running Strata Net over a MIPU24 at each end, connected by a data only T1. The remote site is currently configured with a hardware layer 2 VPN appliance to the main office. This all works well and good, but the QoS on the VPN appliance does not seem to work properly so we attempted to bypass the VPN appliance and firewall at each end with the MIPUs.

We connected the MIPUs to switches directly connected to the internet routers at each end, and then assigned them static public IP addresses on Prog 161. We then changed the IP address routes in Prog 671 to match the new IPs. Each IP was pingable directly from the outside world.

The problem is that the two systems only partially linked up. The remote site could dial extensions only at the remote site, and outside numbers. The main site could not dial any extension at the remote site.

Both systems were reset and we also tried changing Prog 670 to match the new IPs, as well as entering them into Prog 674 with no success. Prog 661 shows the correct network DNs and node assignments.

We reverted all settings and cabling back to the original config and everything came back up. What did we miss?

When you changed the IP addresses for the MIPU's did you give them the correct subnet mask for the /30 or /29 subnet eg 255.255.255.252 or 255.255.255.248 and did you assign the gateway as the internet router?

Yes. I also verified that multiple times because I had seen where they must have the correct default gateway to work properly. As I stated, voice and dialing outside numbers worked great, it was only inter-company calls that did not work. For some reason any extension dialed resulted in Call Abandoned as if the extension didn't exist.
