I have a customer with a DK40I and expansion cabinet. Recently they encounter some problem with lost calls. After a few minutes on the phone, the call would just drop, even the LED light would go out for the CO line. I was informed that it could be a power problem, so I installed a small APC unit. I thought that fixed the problem, but it still happened. I met with the local phone company, but they indicated no problems on the lines. I switched out the base cabinet with another and thought the problem was fixed. When they told me that they were still lossing calls, the receptionist told me that not only is the call gone, but the LED light goes out for the CO line and also the DSS button for the station. Any suggestions on what to test or replace.

Replace the hookswitches in the problem phones. They can be purchased from either Toshiba or Page Industries.

Originnally I thought might have been the problem, but the phones are not within the lot number for being suspect. Besides, if more than one user is on a call, all lines are dropped. As I recall, they even informed me that after a few seconds (10-20) the call comes back over the speaker.

Hookswitches on the DKT 2000 series phones have always beeen an issue (forget about lot numbers, they are all getting old) and I still think that is your problem. However, you now say all lines are dropped system wide - that would lead me toward the telco side. I'm sure that with your troubleshooting skills that you will have the customer back operational ASAP.

Let us know how it turns out

Look for "CO Line Hangup" messages on LCD's. Also, as a test, try turning off AR/CPC detection (Prog code 0 in PRG 15) You may be getting false disconnect signalling on the lines. That being said, most of the time if all lines are affected, then it is hookswitch issues.

This next thing is a far fetch, but I did see finger troubles cause this too. If CPC is enabled, make sure the switchboard presses release or hangs up after each call transfer. If just hitting the next incoming co button after each transfer without releasing then sometimes the system will drop all active linked calls when getting a CPC signal. It is because the KSU needs each call to be separated from one another after transfer. The results obtained after turning off CPC will tell you if this is the case.
