I'm having a problem getting my fax machine and answering machine to co-exist.

I have two CO's. I have the fax on the whtorg/orgwht pair and the ans. machine on the whtblu/bluwhit pair.

I have 3 two line portable phones, 1 single line answering machine and a fax machine on the sla.

I'm using port 15 and 16 for the sla (Stations 24 and 25).

When a call comes in on either trunk it is picked up by whichever device has the lowest number of rings.

Does the SLA internally swich the calls to different CO's than the one the caller dialed?

Can I program it to use both devices on separate CO's?

Also can I program the SLA so that one gets an outside line when picking up a single line set to dial out?

Is there a manual for the SLA itself?

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along, but yes there is a manual for the SLA, basically tells you what ports match and the dial codes and wiring. As far as your fax answering, machine question I'm not following you. The SLA just coverts digital lines to straight line analog. So if you have a dedicated line for your fax you'd have to put it ahead of the system If you are wanting the Fax and answering machine to be on the same line you need a fax with a built in answering machine. Don't believe this system detects fax to send it to a specific extension, if that's the question. You could set a night mode to a specific extension. Best I got, there are folks on this board that know a lot more than me, but didn't want you to think you were being ignored. The smart folks are just taking a day off.

Don't let Bill fool, ya he's as smart as they come. I'm not quite following how you want the fax set up either. You can adjust the ringing on the two SLA ports and that might accomplish what you are trying to do do, and Bill is correct there is no built in sensing of fax tone on the SLA adapters. You may want to invest in a line share device and put it before the system so only voice calls will ring the phones themselves. As far programming to pick up a line, to my knowledge the only way to pickup a line from the SLA ports is to dial "81" for line 1, "82" for line 2 and so on. If you are using the fax on those ports maybe you could program those codes into a speed dial bin.

Thanks guys.

Sorry I wasn't clear on what is happening.

My fax is on line 2 (526-3618). If I dial that number from my cell phone it will sometimes answer on line 1 (526-4838). I tried having the lines only pick up different trunks but that didn't seem to work.

I have a "Stick" we're not using at the office so I put that ahead of the switch on the line I use for the fax. I must have somthing programmed wrong because it's not picking up the fax tone. I'll call their tech support on Tuesday and see if they can help me program it.

Guess I can train my wife to dial "81" when she's using a portable phone!

The "Stick" should work pretty well if you tie it in ahead of the system. The units I have encountered did not require any programming. You should have a jack on the stick labled line, put the incoming line there, and one labled voice that you will take to the 2nd co port of the KSU, and the one labled fax will go to the fax machine. Keep in mind the unit works by listening for the fax tones on the line, if the person sending you the fax does it manully it will not work. What I mean by manually is if they dial the number, wait for answer then hit start. If you have any luck training the wife I would like some pointers on how that is done [Linked Image from sundance-communications.com]

I set the "stick" back to factory defaults since we had it programmed for fax, modem, working with a mitel switch, etc. at the office. I had someone send a fax from the office ... not sure how they did it.

As far as the wife training goes...I put in the Vodavi because she hated the cybergenie system so much and refused to learn how to use it. Also it was cheaper than an intercom system which we really needed.

The stick is working now so my faxes are coming through ahead of the switch.

Do any of you guys know where I can get the SLA manual or a copy of it? Things are working but I'd like to have all the manuals for the hardware I have.

Thanks again for the help.

Johnyreb,
Thanks for the kind remarks, but I know my limits and bow to the knowledgeable. Drdick
click on manuals at the top here and see if they can get you one. Use this board first, they help us, we help them. The ol' scratch thing.
