I was wondering if anyone else is running into this problem.
We have a Digital Dispatch connected to a STS system (4 digital ports) and it keeps locking up on the customer about every other day. When it's locked up you get a ring no answer if you call it and once it's powered off and on it works fine.
Vodavi sent us a replacement unit and had us pull the hardrive out of the original one and install it in the new unit because they said the motherboard was probably bad on the original unit. It worked for a couple of days then locked up again today.
Any advice would be appreciated....Vodavi doesn't seem too sure what the problem is at this point.

Are all the lines being answered by the VM/AA?? Are the lines coming from a Frac T-1 or are they just regular POTS lines coming from the C.O. This kind of thing seems to be starting to happen alot. Check Line Loop Current. Most LECs say that they give you 40ma but sometimes its alot more. Some people say that telphone systems will start to act goofy when its above 35ma...I'm working on a similar problem now. Haven't found the right answer yet---but the other day, a tech that works for me at times, was putting in a Frac T-1---hooked it up to an existing Partner and blew out the 2 line ports on the 206 module---the carrier said that the module must have been "weak" and couldn't take the "40ma" that is standard. I wonder. Maybe someone else can chime in here. I don't really have a clear cut answer yet. Good Luck

JWRacedog:
We have standard loop start CO lines on this particular system. We have several other Vodavi Dispatch system installed and have no trouble with them but they are the analog version. This is the first "Digital Dispatch" that we've installed and it obviously connects via digital station ports on the Starplus STS system. The customer is starting to become upset and I'm really worried because I just sold another one (quoted before I found problems with this one) and I'm hoping we don't run into the same problem with it.

For sure---it's really frustrating---but not only for the customer---but for us. I'm going to be putting "chokes" or"loop current regulators" on the lines that I'm having trouble with. This may be my last option. I've replaced everything except the phones themselves. This has been going on for 4 months. we replaced the whole KSU about two weeks ago---it was fine for about a week--then the VM started locking up again. It happens in the morning between 9:30-10:00 and then again between 1:30-2:00 in the afternoon. The only suggestion I can make is for you to keep eliminating hardware or ports, or lines, programming "glitches"
and eventually it will come to one area. If I find any kind of solution I will post it on this site.

I have been working with the DIgital Dispatch some recently. I was at a customers site today. They had to cycle the power three times yesterday and while I was there deleting a mailbox today the box locked up. I have had similar problems with both analog and digital.
I was thinking about a UPS to condition the power and it is a few years old and figured that the transformer may be causing problems. I am going to give it some time and see what happens.

I have worked with some of the Digital Talkpath's and they seem to have a few hard drive issues. If the hard drive has never been replaced and it takes rebooting your VM to make it work again your hard drive may be failing. I have also had vodavi send me a hard drive that only lasted only one day! Also depending on the software version you may can adjust your KSU/VM sinc timer.

I have a customer with a digital dispatch. Same problem where the system would lock up. We moved the hard drive to another box and the problem followed. We then replaced the hard drive and rebuilt the database and recordings. No trouble since...

I have had problems before with the ports locking up. The issues was the dial tone provider was not sending a disconnect signal on the lines, so the phone system/voicemail wouldn't hang up. That maybe something worth checking into.

Just to follow up on this....we ended up replacing the hard drive and rebuilt the database and recordings as mentioned in another post. It's been a few weeks now and no problems (knocking on wood now)

Was this a analog or digital voice mail?
