i have a new sts install and they bought a plantronics headset. it works ok but they have to take the phone off hook. i disabled the spkrphone thinking they could then push on/off to activate it, but it is still a speakerphone. this headset plugs in where the handset plugs in, not the mini plug jack. is there something esle i should do. dave

you have to program ext as to which headset jack to use, std or miniplug. Use the phone interface or latest Win DBA. Then at user level dial headset code or go through soft key menu to headset mode.

You will also need to make sure that the speakerphone is set for headset mode:
Flash 50, Page B, Button 4, option 2 hold.
You can then use 634 (a button is nice for the customer) to toggle between headset and speaker mode. In headset mode the customer needs only to use the On/Off button to answer calls (no need to lift the handset).

While we're on the subject....has anyone found a nice headset that will work with the STS phone built-in jack (2.5mm?) I have been using a Plantronics M170 which is really made for Cell phones and the cord is just too short. Pretty inexpensive though.

Plantronics makes an adapter that converts there professional grade headsets to the mini plug.
