STS voicemail allows for day and night message recordings. Both have an option for accessing a "name" directory via (dial) 4. How does one link this #4 option to the directory?
TIA

In the "PBX integration" screen, it's on the right side of the page where you can select the dial by name digit.
It won't work until the first letter of the last name is entered in each mailbox's settings in the "mailbox setup" screen.

Along the same lines:
When CO Lines are answered by VM and caller follows prompt to extension request, there is a minute delay before station VM answers.
Any ideas how I can change the station answer parameters?

I assume that you are referring to what the incoming caller hears after dialing an extension. This is because the call is placed on hold while ringing the station. This can be overcome by providing music on hold on the phone system. Another solution is to activate "ringback tone on transfer" in the phone system's station programming.

Yes Ed,
I am at the customer's now. I call in on the main CO, dial an extension after (or while) the customer's recording plays. I count seven rings cycles at the extension that I dialed. Music on Hold does play during this interval.
Maybe I should shorten the extension ring interval to just four cycles. How?

Am feeling stoopid..
Can't seem to connect to VM via Hyper Terminal now.
Am cabled and set up per the Quick Start Guide. Only get a blinking cursor.

Your cable should be a straight-through one to communicate with the voice mail. Make sure that the terminal emulation is ANSI and no flow control is set. The programming you need to change is in the phone system though on page C of station programming.

I still need to set the dial 4 parameters from within the RS232 port on the side of the switch or via the RS232 on the VM1B?
