What's with the exclusive access to the Admin32 software? Our company paid thousands of dollars for the Phone system. I should have full admin capabilities.

Then you should have made arrangements with the company you paid thousands of dollars to to make sure you got the exclusive access code.

We sell systems, the admin software may not be ours to sell.

Well, I wish I could say I was there for those arrangements.
Who buys a car with a lock on the hood.

But it's good to know it is possible...

What should I expect to pay for this software?

As a Panasonic dealer, they have a software program that's absolutely great for programming more than one system. Yeah, it's also good for doing visual speed dial programming, but any other changes are quite easily done from the main phone or the manager's phone.

The software is provided to us under the condition that we not sell, loan or give it away to a customer.

Now the software for the voice mail is not protected and we can give it away. It's not very practical, because once you program a voice mail, you only need to administer things like resetting passwords and adding mailboxes which the system manager can do from a phone. It must be there for LAN based programming of email addresses and the like, so we put it on the customer's machine.

Now, all of that aside, what did your dealer say when you asked him this question?

I believe the software isn't made available because somebody downloading the software to use could really screw up the programming, you don't want just anyone off the street to come in and say they are a tech for your phone system and leave you hi and dry when things don't work because they don't know how to use the software.

The software provided by most companies are used as a tool for technicians trained to work on their equipment. With most of these programs there are items that seem fairly simple to do but only if you have been trained will you know what commands the software performs. (Or is supposed to.) Vodavi is by no means an exception to that rule and those of us that know it well do not use much of the gui programs.
Your user guide alone will give you a lot of useful information. If you have spare buttons, I might suggest you have your vendor program them as flexible buttons because you can do a lot with those. I usually tell a new customer "if you do something with your phone 10 times a day then let's program a button for it."
Welcome to the board.

Admin32 is a programming tool for the Talkpath and Dispatch voice mail systems and is not restricted by Vodavi whatsoever. It can be purchased through any authorized dealer if it was not given to you with the system installation, in fact it is designed to permit user interface to maintain the names, passwords, etc. It's even touted as a sales feature for the system on the literature: "Simple laptop programming". This is not a technician-only software package, in fact it's the only way that names can be administered in the system.

Admin32 software can also be downloaded for free off the Vodavi ftp site.
