please excuse my ignorance. I haven't ever worked on phones before but I am fairly tech savvy so I hope its not super difficult to get these couple items fixed. First off, when i am on the phone and another person calls in the line is just busy. It doesn't forward to voicemail. The second problem is when its after hours and someone leaves a message on our emergency line it will call me on my cell phone but it won't leave a message or anything so if i am out of service i don't even know i missed the call. Thank you in advance and I did try to search first hopefully i didn't miss it.

1. Check to see if your phone is forwarded by dialing 640. If you hear a confirmation tone, then it was forwarded. If you don't hear a confirmation tone, continue dialing 9440. If you do hear a confirmation tone, then hang up and dial 640+9440 to enable busy/no answer forwarding.
2. The voice mail isn't designed to actually deliver messages to you. It's just dialing what it thinks is a a pager. When you get these calls, you need to hang up, then call back in to your office. When the main greeting starts to play, press # plus your mailbox number to retrieve messages.

excellent I will try that! Is there a way to make it deliver a message to me? My office in colorado springs has a system and it calls and says "you have a message at extenstion xxx" then i can just dial the password and it will give me the messages. Also if I do not answer it will leave a messages basically saying the same thing then I can call in and check them.

No, there's no way for it to deliver your messages in the same call. This voice mail system was only designed to perform pager notification, so it "thinks" that's what it's doing. There is a more sophisticated voice mail system available for the STS, but it requires a complete replacement. There is talk of an upgrade becoming available that will allow true cell phone notification, but I am not sure if/when it will be available.
Yes, you'll need to do this forwarding at each extension in the system. Of course, a qualified installer can program this feature into the system so that the display screen that you're seeing won't be shown.

is there maybe a way to set up the emergency line so it text messages me? or maybe even just sends the phone number to my phone so I at least know there is a message? Or is this the only way to have it set up and anything else would require different phones?

No, the no answer forward timer is something that's set in installer-level programming. If your system is equipped with a modem card, one of the members here can adjust this timer for a modest fee.
As for the out dialing to your cell phone, you do have the option of using all 18 digits of storage capacity in the notification number for your mailbox. By inserting your phone number, followed by a few *'s (each one equals two seconds of delay), you might be able to fine-tune it to wait long enough for you to answer and then it can send a few tones in your ear (EX: 555-1234*****44). When you get a call where you hear two beeps, you'll know it is your voice mail calling.
Remember, this is a half-priced voice mail system that's not intended to do sophisticated things. It's a glorified answering machine. Way too many times, purchasers jump at the low price tag making the assumption that "voice mail is voice mail, right?".
Text messaging won't be an option at all unless the voice mail is upgraded to the in-skin hard drive version of voice mail for your system.
Sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for all the information. I did not purchase this phone system, I just get elected to try to figure it out because the guys who installed it and sold it too us turned out to be total flakes. I will be sure to do a lot more research before the next purchase. Thanks again for all your help!

Actually i lied. When i have both lines on hold it will still just have a busy instead of going to v mail. I have two different phone numbers for the office, for sake of discussion I will use line 1 as the one that has been working correctly, and line 2 as the line im currently trying to figure out. Originally if i was on line 2 and someone called it would just be a busy signal. Whether i had a call on line 1 or not. After i finished what you told me to do, it would then ring to line 1 and not ring busy. Now its only giving a busy signal if i am on both lines. Is that something that can be fixed?
