Found this on another forum, some more crap from China to add to our list:

Chinese sheetrock. This junk gives off a sulfur oder and is eating away the copper in the A/C systems, plumbing and electric wiring.

The problem has been found in SW Florida in homes and buildings built around 2006/2007. Familes are being moved out and the sheetrock is being replaced at the contractors expense. Whole subdivisions are being affected. This problem is begining to show up all over the country.

So if we find our jacks and equipment rotting away now we'll know why.

OUR used toilet paper is what this sheetrock is made from, apparently anyway.

Here is a link to a HVAC board that discusses this a bit more. This all came from a Wall Street Journal article yesterday.

Apparently Knauf International is one supplier. I would be suspect of any rock that wasn't USG or the other few US manufacturers.

You would think that the US could make sheet rock cheaper then something that has to be shipped from China.

Why just sheet rock?

Its a big problem around here in a lot of the upscale subdivision's

there is a huge National Gypsum plant less than a hour away from here

I still cant figure out how its cheaper to ship it half way around the world than to pick it up in our backyard

something doesn't make sense here

Well come on now, this cant be that surprising to anyone.

It's all about profit margins. And since you cant abuse the labor force here the way you can there it's cheaper after expenses.

I'm sure that's changed thanks to the gas hike and economy though. I'll be glad to see more US-based manufacturing again.
