The following problem is occurring with only one mailbox on the system. It is the same COS as a majority of the other mailboxes on the system. It is sporadic and is not CO specific (it happens on any of the CO lines).

When someone attempts to leave a message, they will all of a sudden receive the prompt to enter the mailbox password.

I have deleted the mailbox, cycled the system, and recreated it, but it is still happening. I have currently made another mailbox and made the VMID digits for the new mailbox. It is a TriadS, so the VM button does not light, but is working so they can get messages, just no visual notifications.

Has anyone else ever experienced this issue before or can offer any suggestions?

Thanks.

Is it analog or digital?

There may be a bad sector on the hard drive that is associated with this mailbox. I would delete the original mailbox, then go back and add ANY mailbox. That way, the system will probably put the new one in place of the old one. THEN go in and add the one you want, ensuring that it is placed in a different area of the drive.

You may also be reaching the point where the log files are filling up and need to be deleted. When the log files get full, all kinds of strange things start to happen. Of course, we also may be dealing with the inevitable hard drive failing.

" When someone attempts to leave a message, they will all of a sudden receive the prompt to enter the mailbox password."

This is a long shot, but it is possible that the user needs to rerecord a new message. Not likely, but possibly when they recorded their original message the may have hit # at the end and it somehow got into their greeting at the end. Ed is probably right on here, but it's worth a try if all else fails.

Thanks for the response, but it is a sporadic issue, sometimes people can leave messages just fine, then someone else will leave a message and they are interrupted by the prompt.

The sector issue makes sense, although this is a first for me. About 95% of the time for me, the drive just takes a header, or it will start locking-up and require to be restarted and I will replace the drive.

I will be on-site later this week, give it a shot and post my results to possible help those who come after.

Well deleted the mailbox, then added another in an mailbox in a range that was not used, then added several more hoping to resolve this.

Called to leave a message and was prompted for the password when leaving a message. Turned of caching, and tested some options on a possible work-around, but would just have to change some of the greetings. After confirming a good work-around, deleted/recreated the problem mailbox once again and it seemed to work, so I just left it. Customer called to report no more issues.... Wish I could narrow down what it was that cared for it, but just posting what I did.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Yay! I agree that it is frustrating to not have a definitive answer, but it's great that the customer is satisfied. Thanks for letting us know how things are going. It helps everyone for sure.

On a side note, years ago I used to encounter a similar issue with ESI's Voiceworks systems. What was strange was that it only occurred when women recorded their own greetings. Sporadically, their greeting would just stop and shift over to menu options. After many discussions with ESI, we determined that this was a simple case of what they called "talk-off". This being where certain frequencies in a person's voice were just close enough to the edge for the system to think it heard a digit. If this does happen again, record that person's mailbox greeting yourself or have someone else do it. I think that you will be surprised.

I had a similar problem in this thread , where I attributed it to user error. I guess after reading your thread I can accept that it might not have been user error after all. Although yours is digital and mine is analog, it sounds like the same problem. Mine seemed to be more intermittent than yours, though.
