I've recently inherited an IN9000 PBX system that's been in place for a couple of years. Of course all the manuals are gone as with the contact information of the company who originally installed it and any additional schematics. This week we switched our phone service from Verizon to Comcast Business. Our 2 incoming lines kept the same phone numbers and seem to be working; however, when I plug the new phone lines in where the old verizon lines came in the the auto attendant never answers and internal phones cannot dial external numbers. I'm very new to PBX systems so I don't know if I need to change any settings in the PBX itself. I've checked the settings for the Auto Attendant and it doesn't seem to care what the phone lines are as long as they exist. Right now I'm at a loss and would really appreciate any insight you can provide.

welcome to the BB. First, be sure you have dial tone and can call out and recieve calls at the DMarc.....If not it is a Comcast problem. The "PBX" should not have to be "adjusted", it is up to the "utility" to furnish usable dial tone. Obviously it was before the cut over.

I'll second that. From what I can tell, it appears that you are handling the transition between the old lines and the new ones. If dial tone is leaving "Es Comcastico's" equipment and not making it into your infinite system's trunk ports, I think that maybe your connections are wrong. It really is a simple matter of moving the pair from Verizon's NID to the new one provided by Comcast. Double-check your connections.

One more thing: If you have fewer lines going into the system than before, then yes, you may need to have the unused trunk ports programmed out of the outward dialing pool.

If I plug the comcast lines into a standard phone I get a dial tone and can make and receive calls, but when I plug the lines into the PBX it doesn't work. I've plugged in the lines into the same place that the original verizon lines where in. The only thing that's changed is that we have 2 incoming lines but comcast hasn't activated the second line yet so right now we're only running 1 line. Could that be part of the problem?

Define "doesn't work" and do you have the same number of lines now as you did before, even though they may not be activated. If you plug in your one line can you get dial tone by pressing the line button? Does it ring the system? If you can ring a standard phone it should ring the phone on the system. You say you're plugging the lines into the same place as the Verizon lines are plugged in. You are talking on the system. Correct? If it worked with Verizon than your new carrier should work provided they are set up correctly.

The first line seems to be working correctly as when I plug a standard phone into it I get a dial tone and can make and receive calls, but when I plug that line into the PBX system in the same place that the Verizon lines originally went, the system doesn't work. Calling from an outside number, the auto attendant never picks up and internal phones cannot get a dial tone when they press the line button. Another question is what is 'usable' dial tone. When trying to make a call from a traditional phone plugged straight into the Comcast line it seems to take about 10 seconds before it actually starts ringing the other phone during this 10 seconds there's a strange tone on the line that I've never heard before, I don't know if this is normal or not.

If it's not ringing your system phones there is no way the auto attendant is going to get it. If you know you're hooking it up correctly to the system than your problem is Comcast. Sounds to me like an inferior product, 10 seconds to start ringing to the far end is unacceptable. As with most things, you get what you pay for.

Many folks around here who switch to cable have switched back to real phone service.

If the verizon lines are reconnected does everything work as it should? Also you keep mentioning that you are "Plugging the lines in" The only way to connect the lines on a IN9000 system is punching them down to the CO line card.

Sorry, I should be more specific. The way our system is setup is there are female outlets that accept RJ11 jacks and the outlets are punched into the panels, I guess it's for ease of use, I've bypassed them for now. I think Comcast had Verizon deactivate their lines, they told us that they would handle that. Comcast is sending a technician out since when I called them they couldn't get a response from the telephone modem. Hopefully they will get it sorted out.
