Hello.
I was wondering if the Vodavi STSe has the ability to do some sort of specialized ring?
One of our sites would like to only function with 1 phone line and still be able to use the fax.
Thanks.

You could just use a line share device that detects fax tone. Or use the built in fax detect in the STSe.

If you have the STSe 2.0 version, I definitely suggest using an external com-share device. Although I can't get anyone at Vertical to admit it, there is a defect in these units. I have tried 2 systems at 1 site and 1 system at another site and all 3 ksu's had the same problem. The analog port that the fax is connected to will continue to recieve ring voltage after the call is hung up and won't stop unless you reboot the system.

asteldon, I've two in and working fine AFTER finding out high loop current will cause problems just as you've discribed. I put loop current regulators on them and they are both doing fine, one has been in about 3 years. It did give me fits until I figued out what was causing it. If you search fax detect in the Vodavi category you'll find a few topics about it.

Bill, if it has been doing fine for 3 years then it is probably not an STSe with 2.0 software. I don't think 2.0 has been out that long. I have this feature working fine on several STS systems but have had no luck with STSe 2.0. Besides, it isn't the line ringing the fax back, it is that the ring generator is stuck in a loop. The line disconnects as soon as the fax ends, but the ring gen. continues to ring the analog port. The two sites that failed were also different carriers, so I truly believe that the problem is in the 2.0 ksu. I even sent an event trace to Vertical over 2 months ago. They said an engineer would call me back. I'm holding my breath waiting for their call, but I'm starting to get dizzy.

No it wouldn't be the 2.0 software but it was stuck in a ringing loop to the station just as you discribed. Would be interesting to know what the loop current is though.
