My voicemail currently sends pager notifications when voicemails are received. I changed the number (via a tellephone keypad)and defined the new number as a telephone. The voice mail still sends DTMF tones as if it were sending to a pager. I understand that I need to change this setting by logging into the voicemail via PC. I tried using Hyperterminal set to 9600, 8, N, 1. I get nothing. Should I get a prompt on the screen, or do I need to enter something to get started?

I am using a laptop with a Belkin USB to RS232/DB9 adapter. From what I found, this has been an issue in the past.

You can't use Hyperterminal for this. There is a software program needed to perform programming changes called ADMIN.

You need to go into the COS that is being used for that particular mailbox (typically COS 100)and change the notification settings there.

At the bottom of the screen, you'll see a box that should say something like "112.CF".

You need to replace the 112 with CELLULAR.

Thank You.

You should have been given this when the system was installed since a copy comes with each system.

You can try this site and use the Dispatch software.
