I have a customer that we just picked up that has an older Triad S system in their residence with 2 lines and 5 phones. They are happy with the system but they want to replace the phones with the newer simple 8 button phones(older couple, they want easy). Only problem is you don't seem to have full programming access with an 8 button phone on sta. 100. I know you can program the system with a laptop but they don't have the optional rs232 board for that. I can program with one of their older 24button phones on sta.100, but when I'm done and plug in the new 8button, the flex keys default. Any way around this?

It depends upon the software level that the system has. Dial 605 from any display phone to get the software version and let us know. This well help us determine if it can be done or not.

Ok, thanks EV. I'm not onsite so I'll try and get the customer to do it over the phone and then post up.

The old 8-btn sets were not full hands-free speaker phones. They are monitor only and you need to use the handset to reply. I would have to plug in a newer 8-button to see if it is the same. My memory being what it is and all...

Its the numbers that we need. Such as 4.17
edit: actually, if you get XTS that means it is at least a 4.15 or so.
So where I think Ed is going, is to take the last unused station port and in station programming, enable admin programming for that extension. Then put a jack at the KSU so when you need to program, plug the 24 btn into it. You will also be best served by turning station lock on so that if this customer swaps phone types on you, you won't get a frantic call from buttons having defaulting on them.

I know you can program all the OTHER extensions (excluding 100) for the UNI/XTS 8 button phones using the old 24 button(I just did this a few days ago). Worse case scenario just leave ext 100 dedicated for programming and have all their phones on 101-105.

I kinda figured there might be numbers, but that is what she told me over the phone. Anyway, I wanted to just change the office ext to a different number and just reserve 100 at the backboard, but they are used to being able to change system speed dial from that phone. So I guess what I need to know is how to add admin programming on another ext. Could'nt find that in the manual.

You can try enabling it in flash 50, page A, button 18. If the software is the right level, this option will be there.
