Was wanting to know if anyone has a thought on a voice mail setup I can use on a Landmark phone System. This church im working at had an a very very very old phone system. I yanked it out and rewired it for them and put in a Landmark system I had in storage. Didnt charge them for the system cause Its one I had laying around. Its a refurbished unit. but They would like a voice mail unit. I am trying to get them to buy a good phone system like a Panasonic but funds are an issue. I think this landmark will get them by untill they are done paying off the sound system..
I was thinking a voice mail system for the computer... any thoughts?
Matthew

I don't think the Landmark will support a VM system. Does it have the capability for S/L ports?? You might be better off to have a 3 box answering machine (Sony & others make them) hooked up on the main line. If their needs are more robust than that---they may have to wait to get a small system like a DS1000, DX-80, Partner ACS etc.---with an integrated VM. I haven't installed/sold any phone system in over 12 years that did not have the capability, at some time, of putting a VM on it. Sometimes buying a used system with a VM with it (ACS with a 10 box card, e.g.) is less expensive than trying to put a VM on a system that just wasn't designed to support it. The key point is---does the Landmark support VM?? and how much will it cost to get a used VM that works with it? Good Luck.

I Had a voice mail on an old landmark at least 12 years ago and it does work. the programming is much like the Vodave DHS. I think you will find that buying an aftermatket voice mail like a voicegate wizard or something similat will almost cost as much as a small system with an inskin like ans STS or DS1000.
Have them go with phone company voicemail until they can afford something they will be happy with.

i assume your talking about the swb dks308/616 landmark the system admin book says a port may be selected as a v/m port using an analog adapter a port must be selected as v/m port dtmf headers showing sta # and reason for the call must be programmed part number dks50 is shown as analog adapter with 2 analog devices coming out a phone and fax i would think you would need 2 with a 2 port
the programming looks like you program with the soft keys like a northern option 2 put an add in local paper and ask local business to donate the system to church when they upgrade

The original voice mail that was made for the SWB Landmark was made by telekol and private labeled for SWB.
You can still buy a new Telekol Vmail for this system...
If you have an real early version you may need to upgrade the software... If that is the case it would probably behove you to replace the system....
If you can post some more info on the system I can try to help you...
What is it you are trying to accomplish by having voice mail? How many phones do you have on the system? How old is the system?
PS Almost any voice mail (aftermarket unit ) will work with that system...

Matthew,
I assume you are a telephone tech.
You need to crack the case and tell me the version of software... it will be on one of the chips in the unit... It has been 10 years since I worked on one so Im not sure where you need to look...
If they are looking for a cheap vmail you may want to put in an aleen or prophet voice mail... you will need one availbe digital port and an analog adapter....
Very do able....

Thanks everyone for the information. I wont be able to get to the site untill Thursday so I will get the software version then. I just got a DKS 50 off ebay (the digital to 2 analog adapter) the other night. So I am going to install that just to get their answermachine up and going. its a very small System. They had a Avaya partner Ver 5.0 system installed with no voice mail and only 3 ext for the offices. They called me to check it out. They had a power surge that really messed things up. They were still using the old 25 cond. wiring that was installed in 79. I had to replace it all. One ext was going to the room next to the phone system room. The installer ran the 25 conductor wire through the crawl space to the outside of the building, up the side, over the roof then down the front of the building and into the room. When I got up on the roof, the wire was frayed and cut in so many places it wasnt even funny. That ext was still wired into the new system. well, combined with that, and that the ground wire came across a 220 line in the fuse box, it basically blew the phone box off the wall. So after the sprinkler went off to put out the fire, the only thing I could do was yank it out. So.... I had a SWB Lankmark 308 system I had that I got from a church. The system got hit by lightning so I sent the KSU and phones off for repair. When I got it back I installed it in my apartment. Once I got a better system (A panasonic) I installed that and put the 308 in storage. SO at the moment, I told them they could use this untill we find out something to do. Money is a big factor. I just won a system off ebay that is kinda like the system they had... Its a lucent Partner II version 3 I think.. so that might be better...
Sorry to ramble so far off the topic...
I will get the software number as soon as I can..

Becareful. The Landmark and the SWB voicemail were a constant headake. So much that SWB stopped selling the voicemail long before the system. We installed 20+ of the voicemails, some on new installs and some on existing systems. Every one of the voicemails caused the KSU to lockup and many killed the KSU. Sometimes we were able to reprogram but most were replaced and the KSU sent back for repair.

Your post cracks me up :} How could a voice mail cause a ksu to lock up? It is pluged into an analog adapter, it is a computer with the same interface cards that were used at that time (Bicom) .....That voice mail was a scaled down version(less mailboxes, less storage) of Telekol's large voice mail... a voice mail system that intergrated with all the major and not so major phone systems.... The reson why SWB stoped selling it was because Telekol stoped selling it to them, to many support issues with the techs that sold them... and not enough money to Telekol. Telekol droped them.....You can still buy a Telekol today and it has the intergration... PS. I have 3 of them(the landmark version) still out there humming away...1 on a sprint protege, 1 on a partner system and the other on a toshiba.... all these units are at least 10 years old if not older... Your post made me laugh.... Walter
