I need to record or convert audio philes to the .wav format using the Mu-law, 8 bit sampling size, and 8000 samples per second. This is the format required by Talkswitch for auto attendants and music-on-hold.

Windows Media Player does not produce this format. It produces a .wav file in PCM, which is not the same and does not work with Talkswitch.

Windows Sound Recorder seems to produce this format, but recordings are limited to 1 minute, which is not long enough for my customer's professionally made music-on-hold tape.

Does anyone know of a decent program that can output this format? Believe it or not, Talkswitch technial support was of no help on this.

Except for the fact that you can't spell "files"
I probably have a solution. laugh

Try https://www.goldwave.com/ . It will let you save or convert a file to whatever bit rate you need.

Works for me on those pesky Panasonic VM to email files anyway.

Goldwave works well with many systems. Unfortunately it's not much help with Inter-Tel.

There is a free public source sound conversion program called sox available at sox.sourceforge.net.
