I ordered a new TIE phone UAT-32 thinking that it was the phone that was not ringing, because sometimes when you messed around with the volume it would ring. The new phone does not ring either though. So i guess that it is the programming? Is there anyway that I can program this phone to ring without a screen on my phone? The phones upstairs on the same system ring but downstairs they do not, the line only flashes. Help Please!

if the original phone rang intermittently than it doesn't sound like a programing issue

I don't believe the Tie UAT has delay ring... which would account for it ringing sometimes (say after 16 seconds)
BHowever, if this is not the case, it may be that the extension is programmed not to ring in Day Mode, but to ring in Night Mode.
You can test this "theory" by placing your system in Night Mode

Clean the ring volume switch. If it's a slider type move it back and forth as fast as you can about a hundred times, this will clean most. You say old phone rings sometimes when you mess with control, sounds like dirty/bad switch.

I'm sure that you realize that you didn't get a "new" phone. If you bought it from a refurb house ---send it back saying what the problem is. It should have a one year warranty---or at at least a 90 day warranty. If you bought it on e-bay---you may be out of luck--and probably it has never been refurbished and probably has no warranty. Those speaker switches should have been cleaned until shiny---there's a whole process that should have taken place---if it didn't---you've got problems. Welcome to the board.

where assuming its the switch and that the new phone is defective
I would suggest trying the new phone (and the old one)on a known ringing port before returning it
something as old as the UAT it could be a hardware or cabling issue

Did you check the night ringing..TIE was famous for going into night ring after a power outage or bump.
