We are doing an expansion on an Elite 192, s/w S4000, operating as a PBX. Each user has 2-3 CAP keys to receive transferred CO calls. Problem is, there is a limit of 48 CAP blocks, but more than 48 users. Does a user need to have CAP keys to access outside lines (no direct CO appearances)? What happens if CAP keys are duplicated, like "C02-01" on two different sets? Could we put several sets in the same CAP block? Bottom line is, how can we make our 48+ users able to receive multiple outside calls and stack them up on their sets?

Cap keys or CO keys are needed to access outside lines. If cap keys are duplicated, they light when in use at other stations.
There are 24 positions per CAP block(48x24=1152 total CAP keys). I usually assign my phones on groups of 8.
Example: x100-x107 assinged to CAP block #0.
x101 has CAP keys 00-01,00-02,00-03. x101 has CAP keys 00-04, 00-05, 00-06 etc...

Thank you for your answer. When we inherited the maintenance on this system, there were only 20 phones, each with its own CAP block, but from your answer it turns out that phones can share a block. This will be a big help: now we can give all the new phones unique CAP keys to receive incoming calls.

if you change the cap keys in 4-12 (especially the cap block) be sure you go to 4-43 and put that phone port into the correct cap block

What if it is not assigned properly in 4-43? I am reviewing out system setup and note that this is the case for several lines. What is the impact? I have yet to determine any obvious ill-effect.. though I will certainly correct the situation. TIA

unless you have direct line appearances then you wouldn't be able to get a line that doesn't appear on that phone.

I always start at port 1 assign Cap 00-01 to 00-04(4 keys per phone), port 2 00-05 to 00-08, and so on, that way you get about 6 extensions per Cap block with all unique, remeber to assign 4-43 to the same cap block, like ports 1-6 in this example would be block 00 in 4-43. If not assigned, will not be able to make calls properly.
