Please Help,
I am working on a Electra Elite 48. I am adding a few cards to the system and here is the trouble I am having.
Before I added any thing, slot 3 has ESI8, slot 4 has COI8, and slot 7 has VMS.
I need more CO's and stations. I added another ESI8 (in slot 5), and COI8 (in slot 6).
When I try to initialize card slots with the proper type, the ERR (error) displays next to the second slot with the ESI8 in it.
I have tried to swap cards, slots and every thing else I can think of, but I canot get system to take second ESI8.
What am I doing wrong? How can I get the system to give me thoes 8 stations.
Any help is greatly appriciated.

this is your layout correct?
1-esi8 (built in)
2-nothing
3-esi8
4-coi8
5-esi8
6-coi8
7-vms?
=======================================
you can have a max of 2 coi8 cards(total of 16 co ports)

you can also have a max of 3 esi8 cards(total of 32 ports)

the vms (not sure how many ports it is) also takes away from the total station ports you can have.

what's your settings in 7-1 for all of your slots?

Yes, the layout of the system is as your reply. The error comes up when I use memory block 7-1 when i try to initialize the second ESI card. The settings in 7-1 are correct but the ERR comes up on the the second ESI card. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

actually it's your 3rd card (slot 1 is a built in esi8)

very weird........just checked the hardware manual and i was right:

ESI(8)-U( ) ETU
The Electronic Station Interface ETU contains eight circuits. Each
circuit can support any Attendant Console, Multiline Terminal, or
Single Line Telephone adapter.
This ETU is installed in slots S3~S6 in the B48-U10 KSU. The first
ESI(8)-U( ) ETU is built in on the MBD-U10 Unit of the
B48-U10 KSU and designated as Slot 1 (Ports 01~08).
The maximum number depends on other Station cards installed.
This ETU shares the total number of station ports in the system.
Can Install
3 ETUs for a total of 32 Extensions

so even if you have a vms8 you should still be able to install the new esi8.

in 7-1 what's set for slot #2? non?

what's your software version? (it shouldn't have anything to do with it really)

Have you checked to see if there's any CAP/CAR (or even SIE) keys assigned? These take up the available station-side total ports too right? A lot of time, with existing systems, people move and changes are made, but because CAP/CAR keys are assigned at the top end of the port spectrum, they tend to get forgotten, and causes lotsa grief.

Just thought you should check these.

you're right! completely forgot about those! they do take away from your total and they are assigned in blocks of 4.

check 1-2-04. be sure to hit the recall to scroll tru the different pages. you're looking for green led's. the red ones are for ports already assigned in hardware
