I am looking for general comments here. I just recently started to sell NEC DS1000/2000 equipment. Everything is easy to use, it is feature rich, price looks good, but the problem I have is that the prices from distributors to their resellers are the same to the general public, in some places it is cheaper to the general public if they do research. This wipes out the margins if my customer does a simple google search. Does anyone know a place where NEC DS1000/2000 resellers can get lower pricing that what is out there for the public? If you do feel free to email me at [email protected], I would appreciate any thoughts or help!

I am in the same situation. I have been selling the DS1000/2000 for a little over a year. You give the customer a quote and he searches the internet for prices. Its hard to make anything on the equipment. I know this issue has been addressed before but I believe this is a growing problem with the internet and instant information. Do you sell the customer the equipment for the price that they can get it for and raise your labor charges? I don't have a good answer.

Let them fork out the money for the system ,charge them for installation, allowing thirty days for reprogramming, they pay your labor rate for any warranty work, and the equipment warranty is between them and manf.

I know what you mean, and I agree Gene, the issue comes in where I attempt to sell a customer a solution, but if I go with NEC and they do a simple google search, they see what my markup is almost exactly, and I give away competitive advantages and potential profits. On other systems I sell I get dealer pricing not available to the public and my competition has equal delivery costs. It starts to be to my advantage to sell other systems than NEC with comparable prices becuase I can make more. Also, I cannot hit my numbers and maintain the $40,000 a year requirement from NEC because I am not actually selling any product. I just wish there was somewhere I could get better pricing than my customers can get given the effort nad money I spend to make for quotas and pay for training training.
It seems better to not bother to be a Authorized reseller for NEC than it does to be one. It is a flawed system. The rebates equate to about $100 a system if I hit $40,000 in equipment and even with that discount I get out-priced.
Thanks for the comment Gene.

The DS/1000-2000 are NEC's over the counter sales, and are manufactured just for that purpose.

If you want discount pricing, price protection and quality sales and tech support, I suggest you contact NEC about becomming an NEC ASPIRE dealer.

You will have to make a commitment to sell systems and have certified techs on staff and purchase an inhouse/demo system.

The benifts to this outweigh the costs as you dont have to worry about every other guy out there knowing your pricing.

Thanks tipandring, I have considered it. There are times I can sell a DS1000/2000 without an issue, but I think the Aspire might be the route I go. I currently sell Siemens and it prices itself out under 15 phones, and even then it can be a tough sell, and the 1000s and 2000s looked good. I am hoping the Aspire will be a good lower end option.
