Hello!
A friend has asked us to change out the on-board hard drive of an old (?) NEC phone system that he HAD been using at home, until the drive started getting flakey. Our problem is that the old drive is too far gone for us to recover and transfer the programming and/or data to the replacement drive.
Does anyone have, or know of a source for the software that should be on that drive?
The board is VMS-F(4)-20, 4 port voice mail for the NEC Electra Mail AD-8, I think.
Thanks in advance for any help!

1>you won't find the software. you'll have to get it from a nec dealer. it is a dos bootable drive with special drivers & so forth on it.
2>the fms4 uses a compact flash drive not a hard drive like the ad8
3>the ad8 is not a type of phone system. it is a voicemail. the older ad8 was for the level2 (or 120) system but there was also one for the 2000 i believe.
4>need to know what system you have. there are things you could do (if you haven't already) to try to fix it (unless the drive is toast). you're probably going to have a 2000pbx, a level 2(or 120), or 1 of the elite series (48,64,192,ipk).
5>if the compact flash drive isn't working (assuming you have a fms4). you can pop it into a cf to pcmcia adapter then into a laptop to run scandisk & a defrag on it if necessary.
6>the ad8 will NOT work in any of the elite series systems (card is too tall physically & different connections). same for the fms4, it will NOT work in the level2.
7>if you fill out your profile it might help in case someone wants to email you anything too.
