What is the easiest (and least expensive) way to add SIP- or IAX-compatible stations to an Elite IPK system? I would like to add users at a few remote offices to our system rather than having each remote office with it's own local and 800 numbers.

My NEC vendor said that the IPK can support VOIP trunks but not stations.

I have 8 analog ports on the system. If I had to, I could run four of those out into SPA-3000 FXO's, and use them as incoming lines for an Asterisk server, and have all of the remote users set up as extensions on the Asterisk system. The problem I see here is how to get Busy / No Answer calls sent back to the voicemail system in the IPK.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you considered tie lines between the two. Then with judicious use of LCR you could make them look like one system. Asterisk supports E&M and you could possibly pick up an E&M card second hand.

If they are local have you thought about OPX circuits? You can also get analog to IP converters...kinda like an IP OPX.

Coral Tech:

Good idea, but one of the offices is out of state, and I'd like to add some measure of "roaming" ability.

R4 + Z:

Tie lines and LCR would make a nice integrated solution, but I don't have the expertise to set that up on the IPK at this point, and it seems like overkill since I just need two or three remote extensions.

I was hoping to find a simpler method than adding an Asterisk box and having to administer it, but it looks like that is the only way to do it with this system.

You might want to check out the idea used in this post https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/Forum14/HTML/000494.html as the original poster seems to have already set up what you are thinking of doing and we were looking for ways to fine tune it.

I forgot to say you might need some help setting this up on the IPK as I only work on PABXs but the principles should be the same.

You could put an IAD card in the IPK with the Megaco Station package on it. Then you could use NEC's IP telephones. This might not be the best solution in every case, but it sounds like it would work for you.
