Got a service call from a new customer to run new cable from the new demarc outside to the system inside by the old demarc. System is a NEC DS2000. Cable run was no problem, but the customer started asking questions on the NEC. I haven't worked on them since the old prolevel days. So I'm here to ask the experts.

Customer says the system acts flakey. Reseting itself, losing voicemail, if you wave your hand beside the cabinet it will occasionlly reset. I couldn't get it to duplicate any of these, but noticed it wasn't grounded. Is the DS2000 picky on grounding?

Any Suggestions?

The system installation manual definately calls for the system to be grounded. On some of the early DS2000 systems they wanted rf ferrites on all of the co and station cables. Is it possible you could be getting rf into the system?

What level software do you have about a year and a half ago they had a terrible software version that they immediately suggested to be changed,The Ds2000's Ive installed lately work great.Go to the Nec Website ,register and ask Support or E-mail.

No local transmitter I know of. I don't notice any bleed thru elsewhere.

Did not check the S/W rev. Not sure how, I'm not up on the newer NEC's. A year and a half sounds about right from what the customer was saying. Is there a quick easy way I could talk the customer thru?

The voice mail is an in skin job.

From any display do not lift handset press 8 and the display will show s/w level for a few seconds.

Make sure you check all your grounding. If any ground to any cab is lose you could get these sorts of problems
