Our company installs Avaya Partner and Nortel ICS systems. Most of our customers are small/medium sized businesses. We frequently get requests for systems with lots of cordless phones. But the problem is the cost of the proprietary phones vs. the limited functionality of the generic cordless phones. Does any one offer a good solution?

I give them a analog port and instructions on using a SLT then suggest they buy their own cordless

Same as Skip, too many issues with providing them. Keep in mind the 2.4 Ghz phones raise hell with the wireless network in most small offices.

Just tell them there is no cordless solution for "lots of cordless phones" unless they are willing to spend nearly six figures.

Panasonic makes a good DECT system.
I use them with DSX and Panasonic.
They use a NAV stick or button. Put ext names and user codes in the speed directory.
Push DIR scroll to ALL PAGE, press TAlk.
Want to pickup line 4 off Hold? Push DIR scroll to
PICKUP LINE 4, push TALK.
On some systems you can list Ext as Flash(ext)'
If you just call it works fine. If you are on an outside call and go DIR scroll to ext and push Talk it does a transfer.
If code are put in right and named right it's fairly easy to use, it's all in the Directory.
We use them for DSX because the system cordless has no CID log or system Directory.

Your question is vague in that every situation is different...what they want to use them for etc.

You can install several on the I-ATA port of the the CICS or behind one ATA. This works fine if they just want to be able to answer from several locations, transfer etc. HOWEVER, there'd be only one I/C number for the lot.

Other than that, 1 x ATA per phone & could get pricey. I agree with the above & have the client buy their own phones.

They are not cheap, but they are good.
We have had really good luck with EnGenius .

Very rugged and great range.
And I am pretty sure they make a converter to hook up to Nortel digital stations.

I agree with Duraphon but if the Cost of the proprietary phones is a issue the enGenius will blow them away

which puts it back to consumer grade and we cant win at that game

For lots of cordless look at Panasonic. They have the least expensive System Cordless That work great.
TDA50G can have up to 28 cell type.
