Hello ... I am the new computer/phone administrator at my company and I have inherited an NEC Electra Elite 48 phone system and I am having a few problems and would appreciate some advice...

About a week after I took over the system I had to complete a migration of T1 providers that was arranged by the previous admin. The only changes made were we added two additional lines on the phone switch from the channel bank... The old configuration was for 5 lines in a hunt group that rang at all stations and a 6th line dedicated to a fax number basically a hunt group of one. The new configuration is for 7 lines in a hunt group with the same configuration and the 8th line is a dedicated fax line that is routed through a four port analog terminal card to the fax. I had a technician come in to do the configuration change but because of some problems at the company I contacted the tech who came had never worked with NEC Phone switches before. He got the lines working in the hunt group but caused some other problems on the system... I have been able to sort out all of them but one...

When an incoming call is transfered to a specific station it will ring and ring and ring and never go to voice mail. The problem is also present in night mode the automated attendant answers and says "Thanks for calling etc.... Please dial 108 for customer service's voice mail..." when you dial 108 it just rings and rings and rings.... though if you send a message directly to voice mail by dialing 1087 it will take you to voice mail. The problem is the same with all lines and extensions so I think it is a global configuration problem. I have spent a few days digging through my programming manual trying to find which memory block he may have altered to change the forwarding to Voice mail time but I have not been able to find the answer... Does anyone have any Ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.....

Sounds like you have to set the call foward on each phone to voice mail, check your documents for the call foward codes.

Go to each phone and press speaker, dial 43, then your v-m pilot number. (v-m ext. #)

Try SPEAKER 43 <voicemail pilot> from each of the stations that you want to transfer to your voicemail. Alternately, from the reception station (port 1 or 2) enter SPEAKER 45, (target station) (voicemail pilot).

Good luck.

could be a car key ringing on that phone. when it is ringing is it a certain button all the time?

if so hit feature then that button to see what it says on the display

or a sie button. which is basically a button that will ring when a certain other phone is ringing. same thing here. feature then button will tell you what it is
