I'm guessing that these are FMS / VMS / CMS Elitemails?
I'd check the NEC technical bulletins for problems. They sometimes publish info on known defects / open issues.
Make sure that the cards that are blowing out aren't all from a single batch number (check serial numbers silk-screened onto the cards).
Also, If it's a software freeze-up, try going in with CoSessions and deleting all the Replogxx.xxx files. Replogs are logs of transfer activities, for troubleshooting, but sometimes you get a renegade log that fills the whole HDD or Flash Card.

Sorry for not replying I've been away. I am not the technician that has been working on this problem. We have a service contract so I do not handle hardware issues so that I cannot have blame put on me for obvious reasons.
I can however tell you it is the elite mail (???? release ???) When co sessions is hooked up it connects and tries to rebuild the sectors on the hard drive but is unable to do so and if you retry it loops you back to the same error report. If you abort it disconnects. I have a migrane and this damn system is the cause. I'm sure the company trhat we deal with will be calling you guys for diagnostic advice. I hope this info helps. Thanx in advance

On the card there are four "piano key" dip switches. Turn off the card and set the bottom switch -- #4 -- to the "on" position (to the right).
Restart the card with your laptop connected. When the BCLR LED lights up red, connect with Co-Sessions. The system should boot to a DOS prompt menu.
At the DOS menu, select Hard Disk Maintenance and then select Surface Scan. Scandisk will run with surface scan. This should correct the hardware errors. I would also run the DeFragmenataion utility.
After it's done, with NO DISK ACTIVITY GOING ON, turn the card off, turn off switch number 4, and then restart the card.
It should come up completely, and you should be able to access it with CoSessions.

Well it seems that you have made a great point. When we put in a flash card vm and it worked without a problem. My question then is this. If I get into the dos prompt and repair the HDD what will stop it from popping when I fire the system back up and run things normally again? It is just a for instance I'm just want to learn for preventive maintainance.

Well, the next step, once it's up, would be to transfer the "replog??.???" (they're date-coded) so that you can see what voicemail has been doing.
This might give you a clue as to what's jamming up the VM and causing the problems.
