Here's my problem. I have 2 NEC systems I'm trying to connect using Voip. I've done this several times so I'm fairly confident that the NEC systems are programmed right. I plugged the NICs on both sides directly into the smartjack of the DS1 circuits on both sides. No luck. I was told I dont need a router, but I'm wondering if I do. I d have IP addressing set up correctly, I've tried several cabling configs (e.g. crossover and straight through) and I've tried using my laptop instead of the IP cards. No luck. Any advice? PS-I'm also going to post this in the NEC forum.

This is Elite?
I've only done VoIP trunks on IPS -- but on your smart-jacks, are you using straight-through cables or cross-over?
On IPS, you must use a hub (because you need to connect both the CP24A and the PAD), and you'd probably need a router also.
Can you connect a PC on each side of the T-1 and ping each other?

Okay, then you need a router on each end, to convert the T-1 protocol to TCP/IP. Once you can ping from side to side, then you're ready to connect the PBXes.
A hint: It's best to test any VoIP or CCIS setup on your bench before installing onsite.

I wasnt able to test this prior to install because one systems was already installed. But having said that, I have a lot of experience in IPK CCIS Voip and never had a situation where it didnt work. Thanks for your advice on this by the way, I'll look into routers.

Problem was solved today, I hooked up my routers and after days of going back and forth with the telco, they finally fixed their problem and it works now. Thanks for all the help.
