I am installing a electra elite 48 with an 8 port elite vms. The voice mail system manager password was not provide and assumed lost. How do I reset the system to the default password? Is the default password the same as the larger mail system as the NEAXMail AD-40 system? If so, then that one does not work in the elitemail system. Can anyone help with the procedures on the reset?

Normally what happens around here is that you get the "avent.avd" file from the system and send it to your NEC dealer who has the software to decode the admin password and send it back to you..

Thanks for the reply. What if I just want to reset the elitemail VMS system back to its default status and not go through NEC?

You rather stuffed as you need the admin password to access the DOS menu .
However.
There are 4 DIP switchs at the top of the card. Depending on what version of software your mail is running you can set these to on and start the mail in maintenance mode.
V6.65 set DIP 4 to on. Later versions set SW 2 and 4 to on.
1. Boot the mail and wait about 1 minute. 2. Access the mail via cossession and you should see a DOS menu. If you only see the C:\vmail type in "diskutil" without the "" 3. Go to menu 4:De-archive 4. Go to submenu 4. De-archive default database and follow the prompts. After this has finished go to submenu 2: De-archive system files and follow the prompts. 5. When this is done exit back to the DOS menu. 6.Set DIP switches to off and restart the mail. Look at the bootup for any errors.
When the mail comes back with the banner screen press F2 and login with the deafault admin password..
