Hello. I am attempting to expand my Electra Elite 192 system. I currently have the following card arrangement in my slots:
Slot 1: EMPTY Slot 2: EMPTY Slot 3: VMS(4) Slot 4: ESI-8 Slot 5: ESI-8 Slot 6: ESI-8 Slot 7: COI-8 Slot 8: ESI-8
I tried installing a new ESI-8 card in Slot 3 and moving the VMS(4) card to Slot 2. I went into MB 7-1 and assigned Slot 3 to ESI no problem, but my system will not let me change the assignment of Slot 2 to VMS, ESI, ANYTHING. It is "stuck" as DTI (Slot 1 is also DTI, and cannot be changed, by the way). Is there a way around this? Any and all help is appreciated. This forum has saved my life in the past!

When removing a DTI card you must remove all the programs in the reverse order as they were installed
When you install a DTI you do Prog 7-1 first for the upper and lower of each slot (press recall or redial to move the arrow on the left of the screen up).
so you must delete each slot in reverse.
So if you have a 16 channel DTI programmed in slots 1 & 2, you must delete slot 2 upper, then slot 2 lower, then slot 1 upper, slot 1 lower.
Set them all to 'non' then go back and assign your esi card & VM card.

Thanks for the reply, doghart. I followed your instructions, and I was able to change slot 2 upper to NON, but I still cannot change slot 2 lower, or either slot 1.
Here's some more info: Next to slot 2 lower, after DTI, the display reads "=09". Is this "ghost" DTI card still assigned to something?

You may have to delete any trunk programming in 1-11-07 (if set to DID change to CO), and 3 [trns] 91, and 3 [trns] 14 first. ANY changes made from the default programming has to be removed in the reverse order it was put in. This can be a pain, even for a seasoned NEC tech, and you're doing well so far.
The display is showing the first trunk # in that slot. Slot 1 lower should show DTI = 1 Slot 1 upper should show DTI = 5 Slot 2 Lower should show DTI = 9
I would have to guess whoever switched the system from a T1 to analog trunks did not delete the T1 first, so yes, this 'ghost' t1 card still exists in your system. That would mean your COI card is set up as trunks 17-24? or something similar.

doghart, thanks again for the reply. I changed the settings in 1-11-07 from "E&M" to "CO". I went into MB 3--91, and all available lines (1-12, 17-24) were already set to "CO", and all lines at MB 3--91 were set to "2ND DIAL". I still cannont change card assignments in 7-1. You are exactly right on the COI card trunks being set to 17-24.
FYI, I purchased this 192 system used to replace my existing 48 system. The DTI card(s) were most likely used by the previous owner. I simply swapped the systems and made changes as necessary to get everything working. I've never used a DTI card, so I had no idea what was in store....

Alright, I have made progress! I had to un-assign all channels in MB 1-11-05 before I could change the assignment of the cards, so now the cards are in and working, but for some reason, my VMS card took ports 37-40, leaving my new ESI(8) card with only 4 ports. How can I push my VMS card to take ports 41-44 and open all 8 ports on my ESI card?

Delete both cards while they are un-slotted, then program your ESI card 1st, then your VMS-4, slot the ESI 1st, then the VMS & check your ports.
