Does a DSX-160 with 1091006 T1/PRI card always require a CSU as is stated in the documentation or is it somewhat optional depending on the carrier and other factors?
If required, comments on an Adtran 1203022L1?

I will NEVER plus a T1/Pri directle into a Telco Smartjack without using a CSU,
But if a CLEC put in a csu/dsu or a channel bank to break out data, I will plug into the dsx port without using a CSU.

I have never tried it without the CSU. My CSU of choice is the Adtran 1203022L1. It has a smaller footprint than most others and is mindlessly simple.

You can use it without a CSU, but you will not get any maintenance capabilities.
