In your dial action table have whatever digit you choose goto a different routing MB(805).Tell routing MB 805 its a directory and that is directory list 1.Then in your station intramail options put each station in directory list 1.

If you want to use the Directory function in the single-digit option where the caller presses the first few letters of the first or last name, you will also want to make sure that the station names are filled out with first and last names. In system settings, indicate that names are set up First, Last or Last, First.

Select a mail box for the Directory: (let's say box 805)

In 4221-01 enter MBox 005 for Ext 805
In 4224-01 for Mbox 805 select 1 for directory list 1
In 4224-04 Enter Name Match (1 = First name)
In 4224-05 Min Letters, enter 3 for a minimum of 3 letters of the person's first name
In 4224-06 Transf Option, select 2 for unscreened transfer
In 2144-05 for each and every extension, enter 1 for directory list 1.
In 2101-02 for each and every station, input the user's name (first name first)
In 1511-01 Name Format, enter 1 for First name followed by last name.
In 4231-xx Dial Action Table 1, for which ever digit the caller dials to access the Dial By Name Directory (let's say 5), press line key 8 or enter the digit 7 for GOTO, press HOLD, then enter 805.

That's it!

Just remember to instruct the users that when a caller presses 5, they will be prompted to enter the first three letters of the person's first name then press #. They have to press the #. Most callers don't wait long enough to hear the complete instructions..... they just dial the first 3 letters and never press the #.

after they hear the main greeting press 5 for dir. in the dir or box they hear the names, john press 301, joe press 302. instead of pressing the first 3 digits of the persons name. can this be done the same way. or is there a easier way to do this.

In Voicemail config the main greeting's press 5 would go to a call routing mailbox with a dial action table that allowed additional single digit options, and/or that gives 3-digit access to extensions. You would then record the prompt in the appropriate box.

This is fairly basic programming if you have any experience with the DSX. If these explanations aren't making sense to you, it would be in your best interest to consult with a company trained and experienced with the DSX in order to best serve your customer.

This is the one that got me....recorded the user's name, tried and tried to get the directory to work...nada....my A#1 phone guy...no, he really is...forgot to (or I undid all extensions) ***In 2144-05 for each and every extension, enter 1 for directory list 1***....soon as I made that change for all extensions (did it through the gui instead)...BAM! works like a champ....now my droning voice directory works!
