We have a customer with a DS1000 which has been in service since November of 2005 with no issues. Recently they developed an odd problem with Line 1 overflowing to the Intramail AA. There are 3 lines on the system. Lines 1 & 2 are in a voice hunt and line 3 is the fax line available for outcalling when necessary.
Incoming calls key ring two extensions, then overflow to 700 and hit the Main Greeting. This works fine on line 2, but when line 1 overflows, instead of the greeting, the caller hears, “Please enter the mailbox number or press # to exit.†(Something to that effect.) I have looked at every setting imaginable and can find nothing amiss. I even copied all the attributes of line 2 to line 1 in case there was something I missed. No go. Nothing is working.
My next step is to reinitialize and reprogram the system unless anyone has any bright ideas of something else I could check. All suggestions are appreciated.

If it makes you feel better I had a DS2000 with a corrupted database today after a storm.
On the system I was working on, If you pressed 1 line 2 or 3 of them would light up, and if you went off hook, ICM and a line would light up at the same time, and the words on the super display were messed up. I ended up defaulting the system and restoring from a backup I had made a few months ago and it ended up fixing the problem.

Thank you for your commiseration. We've been pummeled with storms here too, so that was my guess. This is actually the first time I have been to this customer, so I don't have an old database to upload. At least they're quick to program from top to bottom!

You might already done so but I would key in all program changes using one of their phones. We had a customer with 2 phones that would not display caller ID info. The customer data base I down loaded to the admin software showed caller ID was set (program 1807). After pulling most of my hair out I decided to go into programming using a handset, when I keyed in each of these 2 phones in program 1807 caller ID was not set.

I agree with Dan. I also have had problems with the admin software only on a DS2000.
Every time I connect the laptop to it the ring cadence gets changed.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I did actually go in through the KT first. I hate hooking up the programmer to the DS series because of the download time. Unfortunately, it didn't take using either the KT or the programmer. It SAYS it's programmed correctly - it just doesn't act like it.

I had a similar problem a while back. I resolved by backing up the DS2000 onto a flash card (PCMCIA), reloaded the system with latest software version, then reinstalled programming from card. Whatever the bug was it went away.

I've had to do a few base reloads around here and then reload the customer database because of the amount of lightning this summer too.
I also suggest going that route (AND keeping good CF cards with the different levels of system loads on hand).

It's a good idea to always back up a DS-Series system. (Using the System Admin or a PCMCIA card.)
The database is stored in battery-backed SRAM on the CPU card. Besides the battery going bad (approx. 10 year lifetime), the SRAM could get corrupted at some point due to lightning or a power surge. Better safe than sorry.
