I have a customer with a private line that is set up to ring at virtual extension 201 then after a few rings is forwarded to virtual extension 202 and if unanswered should go to a voice mailbox for extension 202. However, instead of going to voicemail it thinks you are a subscriber and asks for the mailbox number. If you call extension 202 directly it does go to the proper mailbox. This is on an IPK II with an Elitemail LX. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Well I would set up VE 202 on both phones, then set up delay VE ring on the 2nd phone, assign that VE to it's own timer class, extend the delay call forward timer for that class & forward no answer it to the Elitemail.

Is this private line a DID or a analog trunk?
What is the purpose of the private line going to virtual extensions 201 and 202?

Thanks for your responses. The private line is an analog trunk. It is in a medical office. All calls ring to extension 201 (reception)and if it is busy are queued. Sometimes doctors have urgent calls that need to be answered so they want them to be able use the private line to avoid the queue. Ideally calls on this line would be answered at reception (extension 201) but if she is on another line and unable to answer, they would like it to go to 202. If unanswered there they want the call to go to extension 202's mailbox as the message would get picked up quicker than if it went to a general delivery mailbox. Hope this helps.

What programming have you done to forward the virtual extensions?

DIL that CO Line to extension 202. Program a VE button for 202 on 201. Program VE 202 to ring on 201. Call forward no answer 202 to the Elitemail. This will ring both 201 & 202 at the same time & the call will forward to mailbox 202, but is is the simplest way to do it.

I'm not 100% sure how the Elite Mail interacts with the IPK II, but I seem to recall that on the IPK and earlier 192's, if a trunk is DIT'd to a specific extension or VE, and that extension is call forwarded to a second extension, the "busy/No Answer" to voice mail retains the extension number of the DIT. So the call should go to the mail box of 201...... does 201 have a mailbox built?

Eriway is correct. Its standard throughout NEC systems that when a call is sent to a voicemail extension it is sent with the number it was originally destined for and so the VM will try to put it into the mailbox of (in this case) 201 and if 201 doesn't have a mailbox you will recieve the opening greeting. The other way to do this is to set up a transaction box in the VM to handle this.
