I have a customer with EliteMail LX running in an IPK system. Their voice mail has been "acting up" over that past few days: MWI not working properly, ports lock up and AA can't answer calls, etc.

I went in through Putty and did the error check and it showed no errors found. Is there still a way to run scandisk and defrag? Can't find it in Putty or the Admin Console.

As usual, thanks for any help.

Best to call NTAC & give them remote access. They will perform various things to help the system.

Unfortunately, that's not an option. (Independant)

I also noticed they have 3 hours, 40 minutes of recording time left and this has a FM 256 drive. ???? I found one mailbox with 356 messages, but that only cleared up 56 mins.

So we're not able to access system tools on the LX voice mail?

if you're familiar with linux you can clean up the database yourself, but be aware that you could make things worse if you are not.

If the mail has been powered off without a shut down it will generate a series of "core" files on startup. These can be large and will soon fill up the drive. You need to access the drive with an app called WinSCP to delete these files.. Had this happen to a couple of mails here over the past few years.

Thanks for the replies.

I checked out WinSCP on the google and it looks like that would help.

Loaded question here . . . do you know which files I should be deleting? Are they named "core"?

Thank you again,
Suzanna

I didn't see anyone mention the refresh timer,,,providing the switch is an IPK, not an IPK II. Be sure to disable it in prg 1-8-11. What paulw was referring to can happen if this is left in the default state of 4 hours.

They live \opt\vmail directory and look like this

core.1345 154,432,296
core.1360 154,566,656

etc. The print out I have front of me has 6 of these files listed

They can safely be deleted..

Try setting the LX from IPK II to IPK integration. Also, make sure you are the current LX software version. You can check against what's on the NTAC website. It probrably would be a good idea to bring the IPK up to ver 4700.

Thanks all for the responses

The refresh timer is turned off on the IPK

I'm pretty sure the integration was set to "Electra Elite", but I don't remember what the data string was.

I will probably try to find the files mentioned above. I've never played around with Linux before. Anybody have pointers on backing up the voice mail programming?

As much as I'd like to get them upgraded, it is a non-profit, no-kill, animal shelter and they don't have the funds.

Fortunately, it appears to be working ok since I was there and "cleaned" up their mailboxes and gave the voice mail and phone systems a nice fresh reboot. But, I would still like to try backing it up and getting rid of those files to free up more recording time.
