Hi everyone. We have an NEC Electra Elite w/ an 8 port voicemail card. Recently, the voicemail system would just stop working. The tech came out & popped the VM card out, let it sit for a few minutes, then popped it back in. This seemed to work for a few weeks, but now it is getting progressively worse. We have gone from doing this once a week, to multiple times a day.
They will not sell me a replacement VM card for this system, and are trying to upgrade me to an IPK II. We are planning on completely swapping out our phone system sometime in the near future, and do not want to go w/ the IPK II.
What are our options for just repairing or replacing this VM Card? Have you encountered this before, and what type of solutions did you use to fix the issue?
Thanks so much for the help!
Hmmm, never met a telecom company that didn't want to sell something.
The old VMP-u40 cards are still available through NEC as well as hard drive and Compact Flash based VM drives. The total cost of replacing your voicemail however may be more than replacing your CPU to an IPKII CPU and adding the INmail voicemail utility. They may just be trying to save you some money.
If you have DTU or DTP phones they will not work on the newest line of NEC systems and this is why they are proposing an IPKII CPU, would also save the hassle/cost of replacing ll the circuit cards.
If you are thinking of replacing the entire system soon, now may be the time to bite the bullet and do so. Depending on how many users you have, a voicemail is typically 1/8 to 1/4 of the cost of a system replacement.
FYI: NEC has some pretty good lease deals right now for customers already owning NEC systems.
