Please help! (if you can - this one is weird)

My customer started having issues with their auto attendant not picking up. They have a VMS(4)-U10 with a HD, v6.65, Q30931. It is old, but it's been working like a champ.

I've had them reboot the card a few times and it always comes back up fine. But, the problem keeps coming back.

I have run scandisk, defrag, and repair database errors. All are ok, except I am seeing a strange message come across during error check:

"Database version incorrect: must have database for 6.60R2
(Problem in AVENT.AVD)"

Has anyone seen this before??

So today I decided to try to de-archive the system files. That went ok, I think? I saw several lines come across that look like this:

"ARC-file: HARDWARE.ARC

Error creating
Extracting \BICOM\LOAD.BAT."

Not sure if that is normal? Everything seems to have come up ok.

EXCEPT . . .

and this is where it gets weird . . . when I'm at the banner screen and I press F5 to get the version info it no longer shows the system version or Q info. Only the System ID number appears. When I go in to system manager through the phone and have it play system info, it just skips the version and Q info.

If I need to completely default the system, that's ok. I'm just curious if anyone can shed light on this.

Thanks in advance.

I should mention I upgraded the Elite 192 system back in May to version 9.70. But, they have not had any issues until now.

The dearchive messages are most likely caused by the fact the the archive is on the flash ROM not a tape archive that the mail (PC Platform) was originally designed for.

Has anyone tried to upgrade the software on the mail at some time??

It could be a case of it's passed its use by date.. V6.65 is very old..

Thanks for the reply

I don't think the VM software has ever been upgraded, it's probably original.

Since the customer is interested in expanding to 8 ports, it seems to make sense to replace it instead of upgrading it.

Well, their voice mail crashed. I wasn't even able to try dearchiving of the default database. Oh well, I had an extra 4-port flash VM system and got them back up temporarily.

As I mentioned above, the customer is interested in getting an 8-port system anyway, but he has another request. He would like to use an Automatic Record feature for ALL calls. Last I checked, the largest Drive you could get still only gives you 180 hours of recording time. Is this correct? I told him the chances of being able to use that feature (if it's even available) is pretty slim especially since their calls can sometimes last over an hour.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would try to talk him out of using that feature if you can. He will fill up the hard drive in no time. If he really need's that feature, you'll be able to move him into a Server type Voice Mail that can take that kind of Storage.

That's what I thought. I think it is more of a want than a need, but I'll see what he wants to do.

Thanks again for all of your help!
