Inexperienced Daughter-in-law put plain old Dawn Dish Detergent in the dishwasher. FOAM like you wouldn't believe. I'm going to remove all dishes and then cycle 'rinse and hold' several times. Any idea what would stop the foam without damaging the dishwasher? Be nice if it was something simple like a tablespoon of table salt or something.

Use a tall glass or pot to fill it up with water and put it on drain cycle a few times, that should do it or help immensely. Been there done that

Hmmmm. After googling 'dish soap in dishwasher', it seems that 1/2 cup of olive oil and 1/2 cup of salt is supposed to do the trick. We're using vegetable oil and salt, seems to be working so far. laugh

Good to know. I did it in my bachelor days. Had no idea that dish soap was different.

Well, it really did work! smile And Russ, the only reason I didn't do it was that I knew someone that did, before I ever had to use one. wink

Did any of the water get on/under the floor covering?

I had a dishwasher leak (I drilled a blind hole in the back of the tub) and some of the hardwood flooring in dining room next to the kitchen started to swell until the moisture was removed by the insurance company contractor.

This forum amazes me. Whatever you need to know can be found here. It was a big help to me few years ago with some phone issues. I’m not doing telecom any longer but I still read through it daily.

And I too did not know there was a difference in dish washing soaps. Found out the hard way and I didn’t have this forum to consult for a fix. Great job, guys. A lot of knowledge and a lot of entertainment.

Yep, I have to agree. I often come here first with unrelated questions too. Where else in the world will you find free access to such a wealth of knowledge?
