DS2000 with voicemail (ultra or intra) mail auto attendant answers in proper amount of rings. when it transfers to extension voicemail box answers in 6 rings i need to change that to 3 or 4 rings

Check programs 0101 - Extended Ring and 0403 - Number of Extended Rings. If the ringing CO line is a DIL (Direct Inward Line) then check program 0401 - DIL No Answer timer.

Relative to this post, how do you set the amount of rings before going to Vmail. I've tried everything. You would think this would be a simple setting!

Assuming yhou are still referring to a DS2000. Set the Call Forward Ring No Answer timer in program 0403.
The setting is by seconds, not by number of rings.
