Good Afternoon:

I have recently purchased a UX5000 system with digital handsets. I will be looking to purchase an additional system for another office sometime in the near future. I would like for both offices to be able to communicate without having to dial an outside line to save on long distance costs.

My question is do I have to put VOIP daughter boards in both systems to make this possible? We already have a VPN in place that connect these offices for data purposes (remote office connects to server via the VPN).

We are not interested in moving our entire phone service to VOIP at this time. We will be staying on the digital lines we have currentlyfor both offices.

I appreciate any guidance than anyone can provide! I have been getting conflicting answers from my vendor and I am a bit frustrated.

Whatever you do, you will need to add the VoIp daughter board to the systems. It doesn't matter if your phones are digital or IP, the phone system linking will be done as VoIP.

Basically you have two options. The more elaborate setup is the Cygnilink system, which allows both systems to operate as if they are one larger phone system. This requires licencing to be addded to the system.

A less feature filled option is to use Aspirenet license. You put the license on each system, and you can intercom between sites, transfer calls, etc.

Our company has implemented both options for different customer applications. Both work well, and can be real money savers.
