Have replace a 1400 with a 8300. However have ran into a bit trouble regarding external paging. Normally I would just use a CO port, program it and viola, I have a talk path to the Valcom paging system. However this does not appear to be the case with the 8300. I have a PGD but this appears to need to control a relay and I have no relays to control. One cheat sheet I read said I needed to change the entire board to a particulat kind of extension which is not an option for me. So the question is, has anybody out there successfully set up external paging to a self amplified Valcom paging system using an 8300?

I Haven't done it but, according to the Book, you need to connect the PGD to a Port from a DLC card and Program it in Command 10.

Just use a spare analog CO trunk port. Program it in it's own trunk group, command 30 & 35. You need 24vdc or 48vdc for talk battery. We have done this with a Valcom unit on the 8300.

The 8300 can not provide battery back to itself. So you can not use a trunk port for paging with out a device that can provide battery. We use the Valcom 2000A. Also you can use a trunk port for BGM or MOH inputs.

Thank you all for your quick responses. Let me go into a little bit more detail here. I have 2 blades for CO ports. 15 of them are ground start and I reserved the last one to use for loop start paging. I am trying to get an audio path to a self amplified valcom system (2 wires for audio and 2 wires are for power). The PGD does not appear to be an option as there is an output for audio and the output (from the board) is to control a relay ... I have no relay to control and after programming I gat no audio out of the PGD. Further, per one tech note I received regarding paging this needs to be on the first port of a blade and the remaining ports should programmed as a Dterm 70. This is not an option as I am using DT phones. Further if you look in a 2000 manual you have CM 3028 but this command is not in the 8300 manual. If I remember correctly it does appear in PCPro however. So I guess the bottom line here is ...am I being stupid about this? Does anybody want to share what they did to get paging worling over a CO port?

As promised here is what I found that worked for multiple zone paging. In my case this was 3 zones. I used a Valcom V-2003A and an analog port to a V-9970. This worked, not as nice as CO trunk paging but it did work. The PGP works for single zone only - DTMF would not pass to select a zone. Now I have heard that if you put 27 volts in-line from the CO port to the paging device this allegedly also works. Again ... thanks for your help.
