A client of mine has multiple companies in one building. The accountant and receptionist would like to have multiple mailboxes so that they know which company the message is for.

I want to create guest mailboxes and put coverage buttons for those on the persons phone so that when a call is transferred to the guest mailbox it will ring the extension giving the person a chance to answer before it goes to voicemail.

I tried it using a plain guest mailbox but when the call is transferred it does not ring it just goes straight to the mailbox.

I've done the research and have been informed that using a UCD mailbox would work but I'd like to create more than 8 mailboxes like this.

Is there a setting for the guest extension that can be changed to allow it to ring the coverage button before going to voice mail?

sounds like you need to set up ring groups for these people and mailboxes associated with the ring groups

On the accountant and receptionist phones assign message center keys for the other company's extensions. When a message is left in their mailboxes the message center key for that extension will flash.

I've heard that using a mailbox on a UCD will do it but I might need more than 8 dummy boxes.

To recap, I need a person to have 5 mailboxes. To do that I need dummy extensions, which I can make just fine. The problem is making this persons phone ring when calls are transferred to the dummy extensions. Instead, transferred calls go straight to voice mail.

I would rather have coverage buttons for the dummy extension so it would ring and have them blindly check voice mail without message center buttons. I need the phone to ring with the dummy extensions.

I am not to sure what you are asking can be done on the DS2000. If UCD works 8 is all you get.

Good luck

If you were to put an analog station card you can use them without phones plugged in.

To dans, unfortunately when I ask questions it's usually because I doubt the system will do it. I'll beat the manual against my head for days before I ask.

ttech, that is a very good solution. Believe it or not I thought about that. Even set a digital port to "analog" and it didn't work.

I ended up using the UCD master mailboxes for the most important voice mails and then the less important mailboxes were simply message only boxes with message center buttons. Unfortunately there are only 7 usable UCDs as voice mail uses one.

If they get much bigger as a company I may have to take you up on your suggestion ttech, you've done this before I assume?
