I am the in-house telecom guy for a small university in Iowa.
I was asked by the administration here if there was a way to send the calling extension's number, vs. the trunk number, so that the called party saw that on their Caller ID.
And also - if someone called into the university, and connected with an extensions, if the caller could also see that extension displayed on their Caller ID.
We have an NEC PBX, but it's too old to do this..
I have heard that, using PRI trunks, such a thing can be done..could anyone in this forum confirm that?
Thanks,

ScottToolGuy,
Thanks for the reply..our system is a NEAX 2400 dating from 1984. I didn't mean we want to use it ( it's too old), but I meant one of the newer NEC systems ( ? SV8500 NEAX2400IPX, etc.)
I'm not familiar with the features in these systems.

Yes, a PRI on a 2400 would send Calling Extension vice main published number if desired.
From the age, however, I suspect that this is a RCS/RCX and older than snot, so it may not have that feature available. An upgrade is highly to be recommended.
A new IPX would certainly permit this on a PRI. In fact, you can program your extension (and JUST your extension) to send 202-350-1414 if you're so inclined.

The IPX is not new, and is being discontinued by NEC. So if you want current, go with the SV8500.
