So, I setup a DS-2000 myself (I am an IT person...not phone person). I have been able to make the setups and changes with some help. I was trying to just go in and update the time...I thought the instructions to get in programming mode where ICM+#+*+#+*. But, I hit ICM (get dial tone).....press the #*#* and then the display just goes back to the default date and time screen. What am I doing wrong?

If another phone is in program mode or a PC is online with the system it will do what you have described. If you check and find nothing in program mode reboot the system.
FYI you can change the time and date from station 300. Push the #, 8,3, enter the new time in military including seconds press hold key to enter.
