I keep hearing that the UX5000 is going away and the SV8100 taking it's place. I've heard these rumors for years about one NEC product vs the other. Is there any truth to this? I know NEC is currently offering a CPU upgrade to UX5000 customers to convert their system to SV8100.

No date has been given but yes we will all be selling the SV8100. The difference is so small that it took me like 20 minutes to re-certify on the SV8100. In fact as of version 4 the the SV8100 can run the UX5000 phones. The only REAL differences IMHO are the way the pricing works out for the dealer. The SV8100 is WAY more complicated in it's licensing and it's taking some time right now getting used to all the new part numbers. Honestly right now, I wouldn't be afraid to buy either system even though some dealers use it as a scare tactic, unfounded of course. I have both systems in house and there essentially is no difference save the phones on the UX5000 having a few more fixed keys..and I think look better (I mean they look close to the same), and the actual phone system is white or grey. I've actually brought both demo systems to customers to show them the differences because of unfounded fear mongering from competitive companies who have no access to a UX or are looking for anything to make a sale.

Coral Tech is right on: slight pricing and licensing difference for the dealer (and that damn MIC button!. White (UX5000) vs. Blue (SV8100/8300) ksu's; square (UX5000) vs round (SV8100/8300) buttons on the phones. Makes sense for them to consolidate both lines in tough times. Right now if you need IP, propose SV (pricing for the UX IP WAAAAAY up) If you were an IPK dealer, the SV will program the same. If you were Aspire/UX, there are very slight differences. Oh, and although the UX500 phones will work on the SV, NEC will not support a mix of UX500 and SV8100 phones on the same platform.

All great info, i've done the training on how to quote etc the SV8100, and it is more complicated, but has some useful features in the quote application.
My problem is I have a customer with an Aspire system and UX5000 system networked. They purchased at different times. They are opening a new location and want IP. I don't know if I should propose the SV8100 and see if the three will network, or if I should propose another UX5000 and hope NEC continues software development for it. The Aspire has all Aspire phones, the UX5000 has some Aspire Phones and some UX IP terminals, the new site would have IP terminals. I just feel like I'm stuck in the middle with NEC and want the best for my customer first and foremost.

I would give field engineering a call on this. I assume you are using Aspire Net. I mean they are SO close but networking is another beast and truly the only ones that will know are the engineers.

Did anyone bother to mention who pays for the CPU change to go from UX5000 to SV8100? Thanks NEC - we have a pile of UX5000 out there - and now I can't get parts or support. I think that's a rotten deal for a system that's only been out for 4 years.

Um, apparently you haven't been up on the news about the Thailand floods. EVERYONE is having these issues right now. No idea why you aren't getting support. I called in yesterday and had no problem. The customer pays to upgrade I would think. I haven't had a single UX I have needed to upgrade to an SV...I WILL when it time to renew the maint in 5 years.

I installed about 75 of them over 2-3 years, now it's gone. D

Well - I understand about the floods. But, I was just informed that the UX will phased out very soon - (no phones, no parts).
So, I get to go to my customers (people who have purchased a brand new phone system where we touted growth potential)and tell them they need to pay me for an upgrade if they want to add phones or trunks in the future. Fun times.
What do I hear from my regional rep? Sell more - Happy selling!
